1. Kigan makes a dramatic entrance in class
Asur, the epic latest Bengali blockbuster film to be directed by Pavel Bhattacharjee, stars a splendid cast including Jeet, Abir Chatterjee and Nusrat Jahan. It was a phenomenal hit at the box office for a reason, and now that it has made its digital premiere and is available to watch on ZEE5, here are the topmost memorable scenes from it that you must watch out for. Enjoy!
One fine day, at the opening of the film, Kigan makes a sweeping entrance to class, attracting stares, sniggers and exclamations of utter ludicrousness from everybody in his path. Why? The eccentric artist has forgotten to wear his panjabi that day, on top of which he is high and out of his mind. On entering the class, he commands one of his students to hand him a cigarette. This scene establishes Kigan’s characteristics and gets you ready for the rest!
2. Kigan's spontaneous demonstration at the tennis court
Aditi (Nusrat) speaks for Kigan at her father’s Deshbondhu Park Pujo Committee, but they are not convinced that he should be given the chance to design the Devi’s idol for the upcoming Durga Puja. She leads them to where he has wandered off and finds that he has ripped the tennis nets to shreds and is now in the process of setting them on fire. Aghast, they tell off Aditi for bringing in a madman, but a couple of minutes later, are stunned into silence by what they see– a gigantic outline of the Goddess in intricate detail staring back at them from the ground.
3. Bodhi smashes an aquarium
Bodhi (played by Abir), Aditi’s husband, has just had a conversation with his father-in-law regarding allowing Kigan to work for his committee and becomes furious while mulling over the whole scenario. After Aditi’s father leaves the room, he flings the crystal paperweight he has been quietly clutching in his hand at a glass aquarium in the corner, smashing it completely into smithereens, the water inside gushing out loudly and taking the fish with it.
4. The stampede
The scene with the ultimate commotion that causes a wild stampede in Deshbondhu Park where the largest idol of Ma Durga that the world has seen is set up is sheer madness with gunshots eventually ringing out, and leads to the destruction of the very attraction. This was actually deliberately planned prior to the puja event by Bodhi, and he is successful in managing its execution.
5. The concluding climax
The last sequence where Kigan and Bodhi have a face-off and then tired, flop down to have a conversation where a shocking truth is revealed, and we get to know an important fact that had been previously evading us. The ending is a dramatic one with a twist, that is as deeply disturbing as it gives a strange sense of relief because of its ultimate finality. Watch the movie to experience it, as you do not want to go into it if you already know what it is!
