1. Professor Kigan in the house
The latest blockbuster Bengali movie from Tollywood, Asur, stars Jeet, Abir Chatterjee and Nusrat Jahan in the lead roles and is directed by Pavel Bhattarjee. It has turned out to be an epic film. A tribute to Ramkinkar Baij, the ace sculptor, Asur has Jeet playing the role of Kigan, an eccentric and exceptionally talented artist. While the film is charged with highly emotional drama and is far from being a comedy, there are moments in it that will make you guffaw out loud. We got those for you here.
Check out the trailer of Asur:
In the opening scene, Kigan, who is currently a professor teaching art, sashays into college on a sunny day intoxicated out of his mind. Everyone stares at him in alarm and he doesn’t even notice. The reason he is the object of such astonishment and ridicule is that he has forgotten to wear his pants and has walked into class in only his kurta! This makes for a hilarious beginning and lends insight into his habits.
2. The rickshaw ride
Kigan hails a rickshaw to go to college one day, and the entire sequence that follows will have you in splits. First, he asks David, the rickshaw driver to check if he has remembered to wear trousers that day. Then along the way, he keeps asking him other questions and trying to be friendly, much to David’s suspicion and discomfort, as he is not used to his passengers being so familiar with him.
3. Just before the moment of truth
When Aditi talks to her father’s committee members to give the project to build the Durga idol for the next Puja, they are incredulous but agree to talk to him. Aditi goes to call him but finds that he has wandered off. The security guard informs them that he has entered the tennis court and started ripping up the nets after claiming that he has been sanctioned to do so. Indeed, he cuts an odd figure of one frantically doing something with the nets in an alcohol-fuelled frenzy while muttering Rabindra Sangeet lyrics under his breath. This is extremely hilarious until we see the results of his work in a few minutes (which will then floor you).
4. Bodhi's banter with Bubai
Bodhi is playing a video game with his son Bubai, but his mind is occupied with worries of Kigan and Aditi’s friendship. He loses the game to his son, who then calls him out for his distraction and tells him to play to win. Bodhi tries to make a profound statement in response, but his son tells him not to indulge in ‘sentu-mentu’ thoughts. Bodhi snaps at him for this strange vocabulary and tells him he must pronounce the words in full as ‘sentimental’ and ’emotional’ and never be heard uttering such nonsensical terms again. This is very funny and heartwarming at the same time, as you can see the two share a great father-son bond.
