Technically, Jayo Jayo Debi is about Saraswati Puja and not Durga Puja. But it will give you a feel of the festive spirit and take you back to the times when you got together with your friends to organise the parar Saraswati Puja and came across the girl you have been crushing on for quite some time. The Bangla film is about friends who get together to organise the Saraswati Puja and fall in love.
The sequel of the Kaushik Ganguly directed Bishorjon, Bijoya is a story of love essentially. And unions. Isn’t that what Durga Puja is all about? In Bijoya, Padma (played by Jaya Ahsan) and Ganesh Mondal (played by Kaushik Ganguly) leave for Kolkata from Bangladesh’s Sirpur due to Ganesh’s heart ailment. There, Padma comes across her long-lost love Nasir Ali (played by Abir Chatterjee). Do they unite? Watch the film to find out.
3. Shubho Sharodiya
Set in the backdrop of Durga Puja in the lanes and bylanes of north Kolkata, Shubho Sharodiya is the story of Shubho and Sharodiya (played by Ritwick Chakraborty and Raima Sen), who live in neighbouring paras. They meet on Facebook and fall in love, but have never met or spoken in real life. In the meanwhile, their families try looking for suitable matches for them. Incidentally, they meet through a matrimonial ad, without having any idea about their virtual romance and try their level best to get the wedding cancelled. Do they find out about each other’s virtual identities? Set in the backdrop of Durga Puja, this is a movie worth watching.
