She resorts to desperate crime in a bid to do this, and series takes us through her journey. We caught up with Rahul Arunadoy Banerjee, who plays Aniket in the show, and chatted with him about it. He has previously acted in movies like Love Circus and Shono Mon Boli Tomay. You can also watch him in the ZEE5 Original Bhalobashar Shohor – Paramount where he plays a photographer whose relationship with his wife has soured. Here are edited excerpts from the interview:

Q: Tell us about your experience of shooting for Kaali 2

A: Many of us who are actors grew up watching action films like Satya and getting inspired by the heroes in them. So it’s natural for me to want emulate their awesome swag. Shooting for Kaali 2 was almost like being on a paid holiday for that reason! To be able to wield guns and be a badass action figure is a dream come true!

Q: Who did you enjoy working with the most?

A: Well, Paoli (Dam) and I have been in six films together before this and go back a long way, so shooting with her was great fun! I also had a number of scenes with Abhishek (Banerjee), and got to spend quite a bit of time with him which was nice. I also love Aritra (Sen), the co-creator of the series. He has a short temper but also loves us a lot, and I respect him.

Q: How did you prepare to get into the character of Aniket?

A: Once you do in-depth research of your character and get into every little detail, everything else falls into place. For Aniket’s character, I found out his history and background, what kind of school he went to, whether it was an English medium or not, a private institution or a government run one. Once you get into these, it becomes quite easy to play the character, and that is exactly what I did.

Q: Are there any memorable moments from the shoot that you’d like to mention?

A: There was one scene that required me to pull off four or five gun shots in one go. There was no question of missing, as that would undo the entire process and we would not even have enough time to redo it! We were shooting this at 5:45 in the evening and 15 minutes later, there would be no light to shoot in. However, it went off smoothly.

Q: What are you missing the most during this lockdown?

A: Going out! I miss stepping out when I want to, and even the bad tea that we would get while working on sets. I really miss those things, and overall, the normalcy in everyday life.

Q: Tell us five reasons why we should watch Kaali 2.

A: It is the best web series in the language, the brilliant performances, the best action sequences in a thriller, it is double the darkness and action as the first season…and last, but not least, I am there!

Q: What message would you like to leave for your fans?

A: Keep your sanity intact, and stay safe!

Kaali 2, released on May 29, and promises to be even better than the first.
