Mystery, Passion And Crime: 5 Detective Movies You Need To Watch This Weekend

If your favourite genre is mystery, and chilling crimes and whodunnits are your cup of tea, we made a list of films just for you!

1. Satyanweshi Byomkesh

There’s nothing like good old crime fiction to get us hooked to a plot — one with a dark mystery that only a genius of a detective can solve. Watching a juicy whodunnit unravel can be one of the most satisfying experiences, especially if you’re looking for a way to lift yourself out of the boredom that can often accompany an evening lull. Well, look no further, as we have just the right compilation of detective films to entertain you!

Needless to say, any list of detective films must feature a Byomkesh one! If you haven’t yet, watch Satyanweshi Byomkeshthe latest one where Parambrata Chattopadhyay plays the much-loved icon, Detective Byomkesh Bakshi. Based on the original novel Magna Mainak by author Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, this film is directed by Saytantan Ghoshal and written by Anjan Dutt. Here Byomkesh investigates the death of Hena Mallick, a beautiful young lady, and unearths several skeletons in the closets of the characters. A must watch!

2. Eagoler Chokh

Eagoler Chokh is a crime thriller where Saswata Chatterjee plays the role of an unemotional and coldly clinical police detective called Shabor Dasgupta. With the help of his subordinate and fried Nanda, he investigates the murder of a young girl. Watch this crime drama for an eye-opening perspective on human psychology. Subhrajeet Dutta, Jaya Ahsan and Payel Sarkar also star in the film.

3. Chupi Chupi Aashey

Chupi Chupi Ashey, made in 1960, stars Chhabi Biswas, Jahar Ganguly, Rabin Majumdar and Tapati Debi. The characters Prabir and Kanika start the business of running a hotel and advertise it through handbills. As it happens, a woman gets murdered in Kolkata, and some of these handbills are left by the murderer. Watch for a throwback experience into the heady ’60s, and a riveting plot full of coincidences among the hotel guests that lead the detective right up to the culprit.

4. Byomkesh Bakshi

Another one featuring Detective Bakshi, Byomkesh Bakshi made in 2010 stars Abir Chatterjee as Byomkesh, Saswata Chatterjee and Arindol Bagchi also play major roles. In this film, mine owner Manish Chakraborty hires the detective to investigate the death of Anadi Halder. He encounters many people who fit the list of suspects. Watch to find out if and how he cracks this mystifying case.

5. Goyenda Gogol

Goyenda Gogol is a 2013  film based on the fictional series by author Samaresh Basu. Directed by Arindam Dey, it stars Ahijit Ghosh and Indraneil Sengupta in the lead roles. The story revolves around Gogol, a child who goes on a vacation with his parents and comes across Mandar Villa, a place shrouded in mystery. It beckons to him to get to the bottom of it. Watch for ample suspense and drama that will keep you absorbed in Gogol’s adventures.
