India is all set to play the first day-night test that Sourav Ganguly announced after becoming the BCCI President. And it is starting at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata from November 29, 2019. Obviously, none of us can keep calm. It seems like the Dadagiri Unlimited Season 8 anchor is as excited about it as we are. Dada took to social media to share pictures of Kolkata turning pink ahead of the Test match, or the #PinkBallTest, as it is being called. Take a look.
Take a look at Shahid Minar, all dressed up in pink lights. The entire city, along with Eden Gardens Stadium, is being lit up in pink lights to commemorate the event. This is India’s first ever day-night Test. The first ever day-night Test match was played between Australia and New Zealand in November 2015 at Adelaide Oval.
From north to south, every major landmark of the city is being lit up in this hue. The Big Ben clock tower in Lake Town in no exception. The match will start at 1 pm and will end by 8 pm to avoid the dew that is common at this time of the year. The first interval will happen at 3 pm and the second one at 5.40 pm. Pink SG cricket balls will be used. BCCI has ordered a total of 72 pink balls for the Test.
Even hospitals in the city are being lit up (check picture) for the #PinkBallTest. Reportedly, Army paratroopers are to fly into Eden Gardens to give a pink ball each to the two captains – Virat Kohli and Mominul Haque – before the toss.
While some Kolkata Municipal Corporation parks are also being lit up, the iconic Tata Steel Building is to have 3D Mapping. The official mascots of the match are Pinku and Tinku. There will also be a talk show organised by Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) during the 40-minute supper break. The talk show will feature Dada, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman who will rewind to the 2001 win in the Test match against Australia at Eden.
